"The area of Academic Activities (AA) in ELSA wishes to provide a platform in order to give law students the opportunity to develop their legal skills through interactive and practical activities.

ELSA Edinburgh's flagship AA initiative this year is ROLE. Read below to find out more!"

ROLE
Rule of Law Education Programme
What is ROLE?
ROLE stands for the Rule of Law Education Programme. It is an ELSA initiative that aims to educate secondary school students, across the UK about the key principles set out by the rule of law, human rights and climate justice.

The programme's ultimate goal is to empower the younger generation to contribute to positive change and to the creation of a more just and fair society and increase their social responsibility.
The curriculum is developed in close cooperation with ELSA International and ELSA UK. However, rest assured, the distinct features of the Scottish legal system and political landscape will be reflected in the curriculum.
The curriculum will be delivered by trained law students (Student Facilitators) from local ELSA groups (such as ELSA Edinburgh).
Why you should become a Student Facilitator
Being a Student Facilitator will be a rewarding experience that allows you to give back to the community and help shape young minds!

Furthermore, this experience will help you develop the valuable skills of communication, critical thinking, problem solving and more. These are all important skills for any career, whether in law or not!
What does the role of Student Facilitator entail?
Due to the program's involvement with young people, Student Facilitators who wish to deliver the program must undergo training. This is necessary because they will need to be equipped with the skills to deliver content in an interactive and accessible manner. However, further information on training will be sent out after registrations of interest close (please see below).

In the deliverance of the actual ROLE curriculum, Student Facilitators will need to dedicate approximately two hours a week, for five weeks during Semester 2 from March 2024 and onwards. This is subject to change.
How can you become a Student Facilitator?
If you are interested in being one of the fellow Student Facilitators please email the VP of Academic Activities, Susie, at academicactivities.edinburgh@uk.elsa.org to register your interest! Once your interest is registered, you will be notified how to proceed in the future.

Please register your interest by the 15th of February 2024.
